Omar Vulpinari was born in the Republic of San Marino and raised in the United States. Today he lives in Treviso, Italy.
From 2006 to 2012 he served on the board of directors of Icograda – International Council of Communication Design board as President Elect, Vice President, Founding Editorial Director of Iridescent – The Icograda Journal of Design Research, and Chair of Icograda's education activities.
In 2012 Vulpinari served on the IDA – International Design Alliance board of directors.
From 2009 to 2011 he was Chair and Co-editor of the Icograda Design Education Manifesto 2011.
He is member of AIGA – The Professional Association for Design.
Vulpinari is currently Director of Expanded Media (Visual Communication, Interaction and Online Experience, Video, Sound) and Head of Visual Communication at Fabrica, the Benetton Group research centre founded by Luciano Benetton and Oliviero Toscani.
His work in the centre mainly focuses on collaborating with NGOs on communication design projects for transnational social impact and local community service co-design. Designing from holistic branding to global awareness raising campaigns, from online participatory initiatives to regional co-design endeavors. Some of the topics he regularly addresses are violence and child injury prevention, road safety, climate change related diseases, anti tobacco and alcohol culture, disability barrier awareness, AIDS and mental illness stigma reduction, and human rights advocacy.
